What Is an Aspect Ratio?

An aspect ratio describes the proportional relationship between the width and height of a rectangular image, video, screen, graphic, or design.

Aspect ratios are normally written using two numbers separated by a colon. For example, a 1920 × 1080 image has an aspect ratio of 16:9.
